OBSERVER/CAMERA

Every image is seen from a point of view. In still life, we are essentially seeing the scene through the artist as observer.

In film, TV, storyboards, and comics, the observer is usually a camera, and we view scenes from all sorts of angles!

THE PICTURE PLANE

The picture plane sits out in front of the observer. It’s normally the physical surface of the painting or an imaginary piece of glass that follows where your eyes look.
